Golden Mountain Summer: Hiking from St. Christoph to Kaltenberghütte

As summer slowly fades away and the first golden colours appear across the mountain slopes, a very special time begins at the Arlberg. The crisp September air, pleasant temperatures and warm autumn light make early autumn one of my favourite times of the year for hiking.

One particularly beautiful hike leads from St. Christoph am Arlberg up to Kaltenberghütte. After just a few metres of ascent, stunning views of the surrounding mountains begin to unfold. Along the way, we are treated to impressive views of Flexenspitze, Flexen Pass and Wasenspitze. Looking towards Zürs, the view stretches far across the autumn-coloured slopes and the striking peaks of the Arlberg.

Hiking Tour with Breathtaking Views

The trail is varied and leads through a landscape that changes with every section. Passing small mountain lakes, gentle alpine meadows and more rugged rocky terrain, you experience the full diversity of the Alpine landscape. In September, the grasses glow in warm shades of gold and red, while the mountain peaks already appear in the wonderfully clear atmosphere of early autumn.

After the final ascent, we reach Kaltenberghütte. Its location is truly unique: high above the Klostertal valley, it offers almost endless views of the surrounding mountains. It is a place where you want to sit a little longer, enjoy the tranquillity and simply take in the impressions of the hike.

But it is not only the view that makes Kaltenberghütte such a special destination. Delicious food, warm hospitality and a wonderfully sociable atmosphere make for the perfect end to the day. As the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains and the peaks glow in the last light of the day, the cosy hut becomes especially inviting. With good food, inspiring conversations and a convivial evening, time seems to pass far too quickly.

The hike from St. Christoph to Kaltenberghütte combines everything that makes the Arlberg so appealing in September: golden colours, crisp mountain air, small alpine lakes, varied trails and breathtaking views. A hike that is not only beautiful, but also leaves you with wonderful memories of genuine mountain-hut moments.

Golden colours, crisp mountain air, wide-open views and plenty of space.
For me, September is the most beautiful time of year to discover Lech-Zürs on foot – and, honestly, my favourite time of the year. Nature shows itself from its most beautiful side once again. The forests glow in warm shades of gold and red, the mountains feel vast and peaceful, and the hiking trails are pleasantly quiet. The crisp autumn air, warm sunshine and tranquillity of the mountains make every hike a truly special experience.

Crystal-clear mountain water, breathtaking alpine scenery, and a refreshing swim in the heart of the Alps – for me, the Butzensee is the perfect summer destination in Lech Zürs. On warm summer days, there is nothing I enjoy more than heading into the mountains. One of my favourite hikes leads from Lech or Zürs towards the Mohnenfluh and the beautiful Butzensee.
