Swimming in the Butzensee – A Refreshing Summer Hike in Lech Zürs

Crystal-clear mountain water, breathtaking alpine scenery, and a refreshing swim in the heart of the Alps – for me, the Butzensee is the perfect summer destination in Lech Zürs.

On warm summer days, there is nothing I enjoy more than heading into the mountains. One of my favourite hikes leads from Lech or Zürs towards the Mohnenfluh and the beautiful Butzensee.

My Recommendation for Warm Summer Days in Lech Zürs

Surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery, the Butzensee feels wonderfully untouched. Its crystal-clear water shimmers in shades of turquoise and deep blue, making it one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Arlberg region.

I love hikes that include a swim along the way. Even in midsummer, the water is wonderfully refreshing and the perfect reward after a morning on the trails. Afterwards, relaxing on the warm rocks and taking in the panoramic mountain views is pure alpine summer bliss.

If you visit the Butzensee, I recommend setting off early in the morning. The peaceful atmosphere, fresh mountain air and stunning scenery make this one of my favourite experiences in Lech Zürs.

For me, the Butzensee is a place I return to every summer.

Golden Mountain Summer: Hiking from St. Christoph to Kaltenberghütte

As summer slowly fades away and the first golden colours appear across the mountain slopes, a very special time begins at the Arlberg. The crisp September air, pleasant temperatures and warm autumn light make early autumn one of my favourite times of the year for hiking. One particularly beautiful hike leads from St. Christoph am Arlberg up to Kaltenberghütte. After just a few metres of ascent, stunning views of the surrounding mountains begin to unfold. Along the way, we are treated to impressive views of Flexenspitze, Flexen Pass and Wasenspitze. Looking towards Zürs, the view stretches far across the autumn-coloured slopes and the striking peaks of the Arlberg.

Golden colours, crisp mountain air, wide-open views and plenty of space.

For me, September is the most beautiful time of year to discover Lech-Zürs on foot – and, honestly, my favourite time of the year. Nature shows itself from its most beautiful side once again. The forests glow in warm shades of gold and red, the mountains feel vast and peaceful, and the hiking trails are pleasantly quiet. The crisp autumn air, warm sunshine and tranquillity of the mountains make every hike a truly special experience.
